Shayla is looking for you.
Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

What's today's date?

Already? How time flies... I have a job for you.
Bring me a plant. Doesn't matter what kind.

I think you can handle that much.

Strange request. Ah well. Find a Blood-Sucking Plant or a Night Shade and bring it back to Shayla.
Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

Do you have what I asked for?

This is all you could find? This is useless.

[If you select "Keep"]
Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

You refuse? I see... Just what kind of mercenary are
you, anyway? I'm offering good coin for the job.

Oh, don't pout. Fine, I'll explain. Exactly ten years ago,
I stumbled upon paradise. And then I lost it.

You see, when I was a child, my father sold me. You
don't need to know the details, but I eventually escaped.

I wandered aimlessly until I found this place.
This amazing, perfect, beautiful place.

It was a prairie of some sort...

(Shayla goes into the back and returns with a small, dried plant.)

Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

It's not much to look at now, haha, but these plants
blanketed that prairie like a vibrant spring snowfall.

(Shayla's eyes glaze over, and she sighs.)
And that song...that magical, beautiful song...

(Shayla's eyes snap back to you.)
Oh, nevermind.

These plants were common at the time.
Let me just tell you what I need you to do.

Flower (Dialogue)

Bring me this plant. Like I said, they used to be
common, but you'll only find them in the ruins now.

And even then, only if you're lucky.

They might even be extinct, but search for me anyway, okay?

You learned the Story: In Memory of.
Find some Weeds in Battle Quest Revenge and return to Shayla.
Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

So? Was the place completely destroyed? I'm sure the
paradise in my memory was just that...

An unreachable memory.
Anyway, did you find the plant?

These Weeds! They're not exactly the plant I wanted, but they're
also from that time!

All those battles... All that violence...
And still this little plant found a way to survive.

It didn't bloom, but it survived.
Wonder if you or I could do the same...

(Shayla starts to sing quietly.)
I will make the flowers bloom for you, my sweet.

I will turn this place into paradise for you, my sweet.
I will transform this world for you, my sweet.

Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

I'm no singer, but I often find myself singing that song.
When I arrived in that prairie, there was a man there.

(Shayla looks away.)
He wasn't like the other men I've known...

Anyway, he was singing this song.
I hid there, broken and wilting, and just watched him,

as he sang and planted flowers.
I felt...warm. A warmth I'd never experienced.

As surely as this little plant found a way to take root
and survive, that song took root in my soul,

and gave me the power to overcome what I'd
experienced.

(Shayla looks at you.)
You don't need to know more than that.

Ah, nevermind. It's all in the past now.
Even the promise I left there on that old note never...

Actually, I don't want to talk about this anymore.

You want to cheer Shayla up, but you're not quite sure how. Maybe if you somehow get your hands on that Old Note...
Shayla (NPC Icon) Shayla

You're asking where I left that
Old Note?

I already said I didn't want to discuss this.
Do you need me to talk slower?

Persistence is an unattractive quality in a woman.
Just drop it.
